Membership
Joining the American Institute of Architects gives you the valuable career advancement, professional education and advocacy services of the largest association (80,000 members) that serves the architectural profession. Our local chapter, AIA Potomac Valley, serves nearly 550 members in Montgomery, Prince Georges, Charles, Frederick, Garrett, Washington and Allegany Counties across Maryland.
Architect and Associate members join at the local, state and national levels simultaneously. Unassigned Members and Professional Affiliates join at the local level only, applying directly to AIA Potomac Valley.

To Elevate from Associate to Architect status Download an Application
Associate (Assoc. AIA): Individuals who meet one of the following criteria are eligible: (1) professional degree in architecture; (2) working under the supervision of an architect; (3) enrolled in the Intern Development Program (IDP) and working toward licensure; (4) faculty member in a university program in architecture. New Graduate (Assoc. AIA): Free to all architecture school graduates for the first 18 months after graduation. Learn More | Download an Application
International Associate (Int’l. Assoc. AIA): Individuals who have an architecture license or equivalent from a non-U.S. licensing authority are eligible. Learn More | Download an Application
Unassigned Architect (AIA) and Unassigned Associate (Assoc. AIA): A member of another AIA Chapter may be an Unassigned member of AIA Potomac Valley, enjoying all benefits of AIAPV membership (except voting), with access to all our publications and events, and participation in our Design Awards program. Transfer Your Membership: If you are a member of another AIA component and wish to relocate your membership to AIA Potomac Valley, please submit this Transfer Form to National AIA, using the contact information at the bottom of the form.
